Happy Saturday folks!
Today I want to show you how easy mixing prints are. I always have family members or friends show me a cute printed pair of shorts, pants, or skirt and they always ask me, what do I wear with it?
When mixing prints, or even colors it is great for the colors of both pieces to compliment each other. Whether they be in the same color palette ,or total opposites that pop. I am going to share one of my color mixing secrets that I actually learned in art growing up.
Colors that are next to, OR across from each other look the best when paired together.
This can be better described by analogous and complementary colors. Analogous colors are adjacent to each other on the color wheel, with one being the dominant color, usually a primary or secondary color, and two on either side complimenting, which tend to be tertiary. An example is red, orange, and yellow.
Complementary colors are pairs of colors which, when placed next to each other, they create the strongest contrast and reinforce each other. The traditional primary–secondary complementary color pairs are red-green, yellow-violet, and blue-orange. A complementary color is made of a primary and secondary color (green, violet, orange).
Knowing a little more about color will help you to mix colors in ways you never would have thought of before and end up looking amazing together. Which in turn, can help you to mix prints as well!
Here is a look of how I mixed prints, I stayed in the same color palette today, but I like to mix analogous colors too.
I always love to finish off an outfit with a statement necklace, or big earring. It’s like icing on the cake.
I love this suede purse, it really adds sass to any outfit.
More bracelets the better, and I love the back of this top.
Another tip when mixing prints, it is best to put a large print with a smaller print. My top is large floral print while my shorts are a small aztec print.
Have a great weekend everyone!
